LAPCU was recently notified of a text message scam that alerted members that their debit cards had been deactivated.  The message included a phone number to call and instructions to enter your current PIN and then to enter a new PIN.  It then states you will be contacted by a bank representative within 24 hours.

 

1. Do not respond to phone calls, text messages, or emails from any financial institution unless you inititate the call.

 

2. Contact the credit union before responding to any requests regarding your financial accounts, debit cards or credti cards unless you initiated the contact.

 

 3.  Do not provide personal and/or financial information by phone either verbally or by touchpad, in emails or at internet sites that are not secure.

 

4.  Report any phishing cell phone calls seeking access to your personal information to the credit union and to your cell phone provider.

 

5.  If you have given out your financial information in response to a suspicious phone or text message, contact the credit union immediately.

  

6.  List your cell phone and land line numbers on the DO NOT CALL list at www.donotcall.gov.
